After a disappointing T20I campaign, the focus now shifts to the 50-over format, with the return of several senior players expected to boost the visitors.
The biggest boost for India is the return of Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli and Jasprit Bumrah, three of the team’s most experienced players in ODIs.
His return gives captain Shubman Gill an almost full-strength squad as India begin building combinations for the 2027 World Cup in South Africa.
Rohit and Gill are expected to open the innings once. The pair have averaged 60.9 together in ODIs and will look to provide India with solid starts.
Gill enters the series in outstanding form. He has scored 373 runs in five ODI innings this year at an average of 93.3 and a strike rate of 117, including one century and three fifties.
Virat Kohli is also back with big milestones within reach.
The first ODI at Edgbaston will mark his 300th ODI innings, while another good series could see him cross 15,000 ODI runs.
The former India captain has also been in outstanding form in the format, averaging 123 in his last seven ODI innings since the start of 2025.
KL Rahul, who scored 139 runs against Afghanistan in India’s previous ODI series, is expected to keep wickets while batting in the middle order. Shreyas Iyer will return to his preferred No. 4 position.
