While expectations for the film are high, the young director says his passion for movies didn’t start overnight. Growing up in a film family, he had many opportunities to visit filming locations and watch films from around the world. This growing interest eventually translated into a desire to create his own films.
Jason Sanjay expresses family support
Talking about his decision to join Cinema Vikatan to pursue a career in films, Jason Sanjay revealed that the support of his family gave him the confidence to move forward. “I told my parents, sister and friends that I wanted to go into movies. Everyone responded positively and it became a huge source of energy for me. It was only then that I realized how much faith they had in me. When Sigma started, Vijay Sethupathi gentlemen Suri Sir, and many others wish me well. A lot of people have wished me well and that encouragement means a lot,” he said. He also recalled his time studying filmmaking in Canada. “While studying filmmaking in Canada, I wrote a 120-page script. I couldn’t make it into a feature film at the time, so I turned it into a 20-minute short film to see what I could do as a director,” he added.
The script that slowly turned into “Sigma”
Jason explains that his path to his first feature film was built through patience and study. “After returning to India, I worked on two or three story ideas. I shared my favorite one with my friends and people in the industry. I changed the negative points they emphasized and added more positives. Through my uncle Sanjeev, I met the producer Tamil Kumaran sir. I just wanted to experience narrating a story to a producer, but he liked the script. Later I met Mr. Subaskaran and he also liked it very much. That’s how this story ended up being ‘Sigma,'” he said.
Jason Sanjay focuses on ‘Sigma’
Although some have questioned whether acting will be in his future, Jason said his immediate goal is to become a film producer. “I didn’t appear in the promotional jingle because I wanted to be an actor. Just a brief introduction about the film and its themes. Now, it’s my responsibility to successfully release Sigma and that’s my whole focus. Once the film is released, I will decide whether to act or continue directing. Every director has an actor in mind, and I have one too. But everything depends on what happens after Sigma. I still have two or three story ideas in my head and I’ll start working on them once the movie comes out. ” he said.
