After a stellar opening weekend, the film’s box office collection on Monday fell 61.9% from Rs 21.90 crore on Sunday. The film debuted on Friday with a net box office of 1,740 million rupees. The weekend box office grew strongly, with a net box office of 220 million rupees on Saturday and 21.9 billion rupees on Sunday. The total box office in the first weekend exceeded 500 million rupees, which is impressive.
The English version of “Odyssey” remains the biggest draw
The English version of the film has been the biggest contributor to its success in India. So far, out of the estimated total revenue of Rs 83.14 crore, the English version has contributed about Rs 66.18 crore, accounting for nearly 80% of the total revenue. The remaining Rs 16.96 crore comes from the Hindi, Tamil and Telugu dubbed versions.
Odyssey stays ahead of domestic competition
Despite a weekday dip, the Christopher Nolan directorial continued to lead the Indian box office on Monday, outperforming its rivals. The film is competing with the horror film “Evil Dead”, which has earned Rs 26.98 crore net revenue and Rs 31.61 crore gross revenue in India so far. It also faces competition in the Hindi market from Dhamaal 4, which has grossed an estimated Rs 152.2 crore, taking the total net revenue in India so far to Rs 127.75 crore.
Christopher Nolan’s biggest premiere in India
“The Odyssey” has rewritten Christopher Nolan’s record in India. The film set the highest first-day domestic box office performance for the director, surpassing the first-day box office of “Oppenheimer,” “Tenet,” “Interstellar” and “Dunkirk.”Globally, the Homeric adaptation also got off to a roaring start, giving it one of the strongest openings of Nolan’s career, outperforming his 2012 hit The Dark Knight Rises.
