John Leguizamo She became an internet sensation for her role in Christopher Nolan’s “The Odyssey.” While promoting the film, the actor, best known for voicing Sid the Sloth in the Ice Age franchise, revealed how voicing the lovable animated character over the past two decades has been creatively and financially rewarding.Ahead of Ice Age: Boiling Point’s February 2027 release, the actor opened up about the series’ success. In an interview with Entertainment Tonight, Leguizamo credited the team with turning his fortunes around, saying: “It paid my bills. It gave me a second and third home. It paid for my kids’ college.”The actor first voiced the lovable sloth Sid in the 2002 original “Ice Age.” The animated film went on to launch a franchise that generated an estimated $6 billion in revenue across film, television, merchandise and games.Talking about how the movie paid for both homes, he said he bought a four-bedroom lakefront home in upstate New York in 2003, a year after the original film was released. Two years later, he expanded and paid for a two-bedroom penthouse in Los Angeles’ Venice neighborhood.However, Leguizamo’s income came only from the first “Ice Age” movie. After the success of the second installment, Ice Age: Meltdown (2006), he continued to renegotiate his salary. When Ice Age: Dawn of the Dinosaurs hit theaters in 2009, the improved deal paid off significantly.Looking back on his compensation, he said: “It got me a brownstone building. It got me a beach house in the Hamptons. It got me two swimming pools!”In 2008, the actor purchased a four-story townhouse in New York City’s West Village, which he and his wife, Justin Maurer, spent a year renovating. A few years later, he also added a beach house in Amagansett around the time of the 2012 release of Ice Age: Continental Drift.The franchise also helps Leguizamo support his children’s education. His daughter Allegra studied drama at Northwestern University, while his son Lucas graduated from Vassar College with a degree in political science. In 2023, reports surfaced that the actor bought Allegra an apartment near his home in New York.Leguizamo also shared how Sid remains one of the most enjoyable characters he’s ever played. He said the role “allowed me to be as funny as I wanted to be. In movies, I’m usually more dramatic, but in this I had to be hilarious. I got to be so goofy and create this incredible character and creature.”Ice Age: Boiling Point will reunite him with the series’ original core cast – Ray Romano as Manny the mammoth and Denis Leary as Diego, the saber-toothed tiger. Queen Latifah Ellie and Jennifer Lopez play Shira. The film is the sixth chapter of the series and is expected to be released in February 2027.
