The Assam School Education Board (ASSEB) has announced a major relief measure for students who lost their education documents in the recent floods, allowing them to get copies of critical academic records without paying any fee.The initiative covers important documents such as pass certificates, transcripts, admit cards and registration cards to ensure that students do not face academic setbacks due to natural disasters that have disrupted lives.
Relief measures announced by state government take shape
The decision comes after Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma announced that students in flood-affected areas should not bear the cost of replacing documents destroyed in the disaster.According to the board, the benefit will be provided to students from Charaideo, Sivasagar, Jorhat and Golaghat districts, which suffered widespread flooding and damage earlier this year. The measure is aimed at helping students restore basic academic records required for admission, competitive examinations and employment.
Notification of separate online portals for Grade 10 and 12 students
In a notice issued on July 29, ASSEB detailed the application process for obtaining duplicate documents. Students who want to duplicate their Higher Secondary School Certificate (HSLC), Assam Higher Madrasa (AHM) and other Class 10 records can submit their applications through the SEBA Online Services Portal. Students studying in the Higher Secondary (HS) category or requiring Class 12 documents must apply through the official ASSEB High School Portal. The board advises students to complete the application process online through the respective portals.
Commission streamlines application process by waiving police complaint requirement
To simplify the process for flood-affected households, ASSEB has also removed the requirement to file a police complaint when applying for duplicate documents.Instead, students only need to upload a self-declaration confirming that their original certificate was lost or damaged in the recent floods. The relaxation is expected to reduce paperwork and help applicants get replacement documents faster.
Temporary measures designed to protect students from academic disruption
This decision by the Board of Trustees makes it clear that the tuition fee waivers are specifically for students affected by the flood crisis and are not a permanent policy but a temporary one to take care of students who are facing difficulties due to the crisis.It is important to note that academic essays are proof of qualification and play an important role in a student’s career from the entry stage of higher education to admissions and scholarship application.
