NEET UG Counseling 2026: Union Health Minister Jagat Prakash Nadda reviewed the preparations for NEET UG Counseling 2026 and the Medical Consultative Committee (MCC) will introduce several technology-driven reforms aimed at making the medical consultation process more transparent and student-friendly.The review covered the preparedness of MCC, Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) and other stakeholders to provide consultation under All India Quota (AIQ) and other seats administered by the Commission. Officials gave an update on the counseling schedule, digital infrastructure, cybersecurity measures, grievance redressal system and candidate support facilities.
MCC launches streamlined admission process for candidates
The NEET UG counseling process 2026 will adopt a one-time medical examination report system to reduce repeated visits to medical colleges by candidates. Once the seats are allotted, candidates can choose between “Freeze” and “Float” options online.Candidates opting for the freeze option are required to report in person to their allotted institute within the stipulated time to complete the admission formalities, including verification of original documents and payment of fees.Those who choose the “floating” option, which allows for seat upgrades for participating in more rounds, will be able to complete their entry through online mode. Such candidates are not required to register in person, submit original documents or pay admission fees until final seats are secured after the permissible promotion rounds.Upgraded facilities will remain available until the third round of consultation. After the third round, candidates who have been allocated quotas must report to their respective institutions for final review and admission.
Online resignation, digital verification and other key changes
Another major change introduced in NEET UG Counseling 2026 is the online resignation facility. Unless otherwise specified, candidates who are allowed to resign from allotted seats as per the applicable rules will be able to submit their request through the MCC Counseling Portal without visiting the College.The counseling process will also include pre-populated candidate data by the National Testing Agency (NTA), online document verification, seating matrix verification by the National Medical Commission (NMC) and verification by participating institutions.The admission process for NRI candidates will also be completely digitalised. Applicants upload the required documents through the counseling portal, which are then verified online by the designated official. The move replaces the previous process of submitting documents via email.
Expanding support for PwBD candidates and cybersecurity measures
The Ministry of Health has expanded facilities for Persons with Benchmark Disabilities (PwBD) candidates, increasing the number of designated assessment centers from 16 to 61 across the country.According to the revised guidance from the National Medical Commission, proof of disability for admission assessment is now called “proof of eligibility.” This guide aims to create a unified and evidence-based assessment framework for PwBD candidates.The Appeals Disability Assessment Board will also allow eligible candidates to appeal the assessment conducted by the original Disability Assessment Board.The ministry said it has reviewed the cybersecurity preparedness of the consultation process in coordination with the National Information Center (NIC). Training programs have also been conducted for Disability Assessment Committees, University Nodal Officers and Document Verification Officers.
NEET UG 2026 Counseling Support Measures
To assist candidates, MCC has set up a 24×7 toll-free helpline and has launched bilingual information materials, FAQs and guidance videos. A dedicated grievance redressal mechanism has also been created to resolve the queries of candidates.The National Testing Agency announced the NEET (UG) 2026 results on July 16, 2026. Counseling for MBBS, BDS and BSc (Hons.) nursing seats under all-India quota is expected to begin soon.Candidates are advised to read the Counseling Plan, Information Bulletin and applicable rules carefully before making choices related to seat acceptance, upgrade, resignation or disability assessment.
