release VijayWith the latest update on censorship certification and theatrical release plans, the film Jana Nayagan has entered another crucial stage. The highly anticipated film has been in the spotlight for months due to delays. Latest reports suggest that the manufacturer is now considering multiple requirements before finalizing a launch date. The film’s release strategy has been made more complicated by censorship procedures and negotiations involving distributors and streaming partners.
CBFC recommends changes to certify ‘Jana Nayagan’
According to Filmibeat, central board of film certification The CBFC awarded ‘Jana Nayagan’ an ‘A’ certificate for its violence, political content and religious content. The CBFC panel, consisting of several members and a censor, reportedly recommended some edits, muted some dialogues and sought a change in the name of the character played by Priyamani as it reportedly matched that of a real-life government official. The report further states that manufacturers are expected to make the required modifications before reapplying under Rule 33. It is said that the final version will also add a title card “Dear Chief Minister” next to Vijay’s name, besides making minor changes to the song and farewell audio launch clip in the end credits.
OTT platforms and publishers differ on release dates
The report also claims that discussions about the film’s release date are ongoing. While distributors are leaning toward a July 24 release date to avoid clashing with Christopher Nolan’s “The Odyssey” and allow more time for promotion and theatrical scheduling, the film’s OTT partners are reportedly pushing for a July 16 theatrical release. The reason is said to be that the platform plans to premiere the film on Independence Day weekend, August 15, after the theatrical window ends. The producers are expected to make a final decision after considering both sides.
