House of the Dragon has fans hooked on the battles and bloodshed of Season 3, but according to new reports, the showrunners are getting closer to the end of the saga. Show producer Ryan Condal revealed that the writing team has completed the script for the fourth and final season of the show and has begun submitting a first draft to HBO.Condal told the Scriptnotes podcast that as development continues on the final episode of the Game of Thrones prequel, the creative team is now delivering a first draft of the Season 4 script to the network. Season 4 is reportedly expected to conclude the story of the Targaryen Civil War, known as the Dance of Dragons.During the chat, Condal also revealed that production on the final season is expected to begin in early 2027, with filming taking place in multiple countries.

This update comes after previous reports confirmed that House of the Dragon is planned to end with four seasons. While it took HBO some time to officially renew the show for a fourth season, it’s currently positioning it as the show’s final chapter, bringing an end to its adaptation of George R.R. Martin’s Fire and Blood.However, as this chapter comes to an end, fans who have been following the series since Game of Thrones may have to brace themselves for another heartbreaking ending for House Targaryen.

Condal recently explained that House of the Dragon’s production schedule remains extremely tight due to its scale and extensive visual effects work. The extensive post-production process, specifically the creation of the show’s dragon sequences and visual effects, resulted in a two-year gap between the two seasons.
