New rules for NEET UG 2026 coaching: MCC introduces online resignation, no need to declare for promotion

NEET UG 2026 Counseling: The Medical Counseling Committee (MCC) has made significant changes in the online counseling process for NEET UG and postgraduate medical admissions in this academic session. The new measures aim to simplify admissions procedures, reduce paper paperwork and make the consultation system more transparent for those interested in seeking treatment. The Ministry of Health and Family Welfare has updated the state counseling agencies ahead of the NEET UG 2026 counseling process. The Karnataka Examination Authority (KEA) also informed candidates that MCC will start counseling soon and highlighted the key changes introduced in the system.

Candidates seeking promotion are not required to make physical reports

As per the revised counseling process, candidates who are allotted a seat and opt for the ‘Upgrade’ or ‘Willing to Upgrade’ option in subsequent rounds will no longer be required to report in person to the allotted college to complete the admission formalities. As per the existing MCC counseling rules, their allotted seats will be protected in the counseling system while participating in subsequent rounds. The change is expected to reduce unnecessary travel and paperwork for candidates waiting for better seat options.

Seat abandonment facility moved online

The MCC has launched an online resignation facility for candidates who wish to vacate their allotted seats, as long as resignation is permitted under the advisory guidelines.Candidates can now submit their resignation requests through the MCC counseling portal within the specified period. They are not required to submit their resignation papers in person at the designated medical school. The facility will only be provided in accordance with the applicable rules and timetables published at each consultation stage.

NRI quota applicants can upload documents online

Candidates seeking NRI reservation benefits in deemed colleges can now upload the required documents directly through the MCC counseling portal.Earlier, the document submission process for NRI quota applications involved additional coordination. The new online facility has been introduced to make the verification process more accessible and organized for applicants.

MCC conducts training for states and medical colleges

To ensure smooth implementation of the updated consultation system, MCC has initiated an induction and training program for stakeholders related to medical admissions.Training courses were held in May and June 2026 for the authorities of the National Directorate of Medical Education. A separate training session was held for medical institutions on July 27, 2026 and more sessions are planned for government and private medical colleges.

Supports seat selection and fare information

The MCC also stressed the importance of providing clear information to candidates about available seats and institutional fee structures.MCC provides counseling for 15% of All India Quota (AIQ) seats and 100% of seats in deemed universities and central universities under NEET UG. Since most of the medical seats are administered by respective states and union territories, the authorities have been asked to ensure that candidates have easy access to details about seats and fees.
