Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese apologizes for Kylie Minogue’s comments

The Prime Minister issued a formal statement after facing a backlash from the public and political circles, the BBC reported. “I unequivocally apologize for those comments,” he said of comments he made last week on the “Bush Deep” podcast with comedian Nikki Osbourne.During the interview, the Prime Minister named three names: Kylie Minogue, Nicole Kidman and Rhonda Birchmore. He was then asked to choose who he would “sleep, marry or date” among three stars. The interview, which took place at the Prime Minister’s official residence in Canberra, was roundly criticized as being in poor taste. He said: “Oh, Kelly, obviously”.However, he initially dodged the question, telling the interviewer, “I’ve just been married, only six months.” In response, Osbourne clarified and asked, “Would you marry Kelly, sleep with her, and date her?” He replied, “All of the above. She’s amazing.”Many people commented on the incident and accused him of playing games and commenting on Kylie. Independent MP Zali Stegall said, “He needs to learn to fight back, lead by example and call it out as sexist.” Shadow Communications Minister Sarah Henderson further said in official comments that the comments were “disrespectful to women, embarrassing to Australians and demeaning to the Prime Minister’s Office”. Rather than politely refuse to engage, Mr Albanese got into trouble with his dirty talk, which shows extremely poor judgment at a time when trust in the Labor Party is crumbling. “Despite the backlash he’s received, Kylie Minogue has yet to make a public statement on the matter.
