Niharika NMInitially rising to prominence as a content creator, he catapulted his career to the global stage with a guest voice role in the seventh season of the American sitcom Big Mouth in 2023. She started her acting journey with last year’s Tamil film “Perusu” and later starred in “Mithra Mandali” and “Idhayam Murali”. She is now gearing up for her Bollywood debut, which is slated to release on July 30.
Niharika NM opened in Mumbai in the early years
The comedy film Bhai Tera Star Hai stars Raghav Juyal and Niharika plays his love interest. In an interaction with News18 about her entry into the film industry, she recalled, “When I moved to Mumbai three-four years ago, I did three years of training in a production house. I had gone to film school and had a theater background.”“I do want to try acting. I don’t know how far it will go or what exactly I want to do. I just know that I’m passionate about it and I’m enjoying it,” she added. But eventually, she chose to abandon her pursuit of Bollywood and instead turned her attention to auditioning in the southern film industry, a move she attributes to the unrealistic beauty standards of Hindi films.“I first tried in Hindi films, but I didn’t like the standards that were set for women – what they should look like, or what their skin tone should be. I felt it was not a space that I should be fighting in. It’s a very crowded space too,” says Niharika. Later, she signed a three-film deal with Karthik Subbaraj’s production company Stone Bench Films.
Niharika NM talks about her biggest regret
“But while I was training with them, I turned down very good South films that were doing wonders at the box office. I couldn’t believe it! I was bound by a contract. That will remain one of my biggest regrets. But I’m happy for whoever did it. After the contract ended, there was nothing I could do. Then I go through movies in different languages like Reeta,” shares Niharika.
Niharika NM faces industry rejection
However, the journey has been far from easy for her. “I’ve been rejected from movies for a lot of reasons. At this point, it all sounds hilarious,” she laments. Recalling one episode, she said: “I was supposed to be doing a special movie. It was made by a great director. I grew up watching him. He hand-picked me. I had already auditioned for the role. Appearance testing has been completed. ““The contract was sent to my house and I signed it. There was an intimacy clause in it and I told them I was not comfortable being intimate on screen. They agreed to that and planned to continue using a body double. But the actor did not agree to shoot the scene with a body double. He was not interested. It was his decision. Then it became one or the other,” Niharika added.
