Chadwick Boseman came from humble beginnings, being born on November 29, 1976 in Anderson, South Carolina. He grew up in a large, close-knit family. His mother, Caroline, was a nurse at the time, while his father, Leroy, worked in a textile factory and also ran his own upholstery business. He studied for a BFA at Howard University and later turned to acting after studying at the British and American Drama School in Oxford. While at Howard University, he was also mentored by renowned actress Phylicia Rashad.
