Trigger warning: This article mentions accidental death.Glenn HansardThe Oscar-winning Irish musician tragically died in a motorcycle accident on the outskirts of Dublin on Wednesday 29 July 2026 at the age of 56. The famous singer-songwriter was involved in a bicycle collision near Strawberry Beds in the early hours of the morning. Emergency services responded to the collision on the R109 Lower Road between Tinkers Hill and Rugged Lane at 4.30am.

Gardaí did not name the singer-songwriter but said the man was treated at the scene but was pronounced dead a short time later, the Irish Independent reported. Hansard’s agency released a statement: “It is with broken hearts that we announce the death of Glen Hansard, who passed away following a road traffic accident in Dublin early this morning.”The statement went on to express the shock of Hansard’s family, “Glen’s family are deeply shocked and heartbroken by this tragic loss and respectfully request privacy at this extremely difficult time. The family are grateful for the support they have received and would like to thank the emergency services who attended the scene,” before adding, “As the matter remains an active matter of concern to gardaí,” [Irish Police] The investigation is ongoing and no further comment will be made at this time. “

Taoiseach Michael Martin paid tribute to the late singer and songwriter, “Deeply saddened to learn of the passing of Glen Hansard. He was a talented musician and actor who made a significant contribution to Ireland’s cultural landscape over many years. My sincere condolences to his family, friends and fans.”

Born in Dublin in 1970, Glen Hansard left an indelible mark on the music industry with his innate talent.
