“The Company” star Aaron Lazar was diagnosed with the slowly progressive form of ALS (amyotrophic lateral sclerosis) in 2022. His family shared the heartbreaking update on his health on GoFundMe, writing that the 50-year-old has lost the use of his legs, arms and hands due to a progressive neurological disease that has no cure. The Broadway actor now relies on a BiPAP ventilator to breathe and full-time caregivers to meet his daily needs. Here are the details of Aaron Lazar’s health deterioration due to ALS.

Aaron Lazar needs $300 a year for therapy

A newly launched GoFundMe campaign is asking to raise $500,000 to cover the cost of Aaron Lazar’s 24/7 care and treatment due to his diagnosis. “As his needs have increased, the cost of full-time care, medical equipment and specialized treatments has grown to more than $300,000 a year. The campaign wrote that Aaron’s ability to generate income for his family was severely limited, the Independent reported, adding, “He needs help to keep fighting.“The funds received will be used to provide a stable life for his children Julian (16) and Adrian (14), whom Lazar shares with his ex-wife LeAnn.While many would be rejected and lose hope with a serious diagnosis, Aaron continues to fight and is confident of getting better. “Aaron chose a different path, working on what he called his ‘impossible dream,’ where he committed to living with hope, determination, faith, and love,” the description continues.

What is amyotrophic lateral sclerosis?

According to the Mayo Clinic, ALS is a neurological disease that affects nerve cells in the brain and spinal cord. The disease, also known as ALS, causes muscle weakness and other symptoms that worsen over time. It usually starts in the hands, feet, arms, or legs and then spreads to other parts of the body.
