‘Jana Nayagan’ Movie Reviews & Release Live Updates: Vijay’s last film to open with a bang at the box office

Jana Nayagan generated unprecedented excitement ahead of its theatrical release, largely because it marked Thalapathy Vijay’s last outing as a lead before embarking on a political career. The film, directed by H. Vinoth, came after months of anticipation, production delays and censorship-related setbacks that delayed its release by nearly seven months. Instead of dampening audience interest, the postponement has raised expectations, leading to an overwhelming response from advance bookings across India.

Trade estimates suggest that the political action drama has raised over Rs. Advance bookings during the opening weekend amounted to Rs 50 crore and the cost was around Rs 100 crore. It earned Rs 30 crore on the first day alone. Tamil Nadu drives most of the sales, while Karnataka also contributes significantly, reaffirming Vijay’s enduring box office dominance.

One of the most striking aspects of the film’s pre-release performance is that it still achieved these numbers despite reportedly leaking online in HD quality months before its official release. The strong pre-sales indicate that audiences continue to value the theatrical experience, especially for a landmark film that represents the pinnacle of Vijay’s cinematic journey.

Producer KVN recently shared insights into Jana Nayagan’s production, revealing that he decided to work with Vijay after learning that the superstar would be taking up his last project after GOAT. According to the producer, working with Vijay was an enriching experience and he praised the actor for his unwavering discipline, commitment and work ethic throughout the production.

KVN also shed light on the thematic underpinnings of the film, explaining that girl child empowerment is one of the core emotional pillars of the film. He admitted that the makers were inspired by two scenes from “Bhagavanth Kesari” but clarified that “Jana Nayagan” is not a scene-by-scene recreation but presents an original storyline with a completely different narrative structure and conflicts. The producers expressed confidence that the emotional impact of the film will resonate with audiences.

The film also has a stellar supporting cast including Pooja Hegde, Bobby Deol, Mamitha Baiju, Gautham Vasudev Menon, Prakash Raj, Narain and Priyamani. Music has been composed by Anirudh Ravichander, cinematography by Sathyan Sooryan, editing by Pradeep E. Ragav, and the technical team has further expanded the scale of the project.

As Jana Nayagan gears up for release, all eyes are on its performance at the box office. Given its stellar advance bookings and Vijay’s unparalleled popularity, industry observers will be keeping a close eye on whether the film can translate its strong pre-release momentum into a record-breaking theatrical collection.
