The district administration has declared a holiday as a precautionary measure to ensure the safety of students amid persistent rainfall and strong winds.Schools, pre-university colleges and anganwadis in the affected areas have declared holidays and schools will have to make up for the missed working days through holiday classes.Holiday due to continuous heavy rainfall in the jurisdictionNotably, schools and colleges in the affected areas were already closed due to heavy rains in the region but have now been declared closed pending further orders. Incessant rains and adverse weather conditions have reportedly forced authorities to close educational institutions in the region.Hosanagar Tahsildar Bharat Raj issued an order on July 8 declaring a holiday for schools, anganwadi centers and PU colleges. Similar precautionary measures have been taken in Sagar taluk as weather conditions remain unfavorable.Authorities advise residents to exercise caution and avoid unnecessary travel to areas prone to waterlogging or other rainfall-related disturbances.Educational institution claims compensation for lost coursesTo minimize the academic impact of the suspension, educational institutions have been directed to hold classes during designated holidays to compensate for the lost teaching days. This move is aimed at ensuring that the prescribed syllabus is completed within the academic calendar without affecting student learning.Officials said such measures are necessary as repeated disruptions caused by rains may affect academic arrangements during the monsoon season.Schools closed for second time since southwest monsoonThis is the second time schools have been closed in Shivamogga district since the red alert due to heavy rains since the onset of the southwest monsoon season in the district.The region is experiencing severe monsoon season activity, forcing authorities to remain alert and pay attention to weather conditions.
