Explaining how he hopes international audiences will understand the story, Malhotra said the emotions at the heart of Ramayana are universal.“Ramayana is like Avatar meets Gladiator in the world of Lord of the Rings, as close as you can put them together. Lord Vishnu, the protector of all life, must appear as Avatar to bring balance and restore life. It is the oldest epic poem known to man, more than 5,000 years old,” he said.He further explained that the story is about a god who chose to live as a human in order to understand human emotions and then fulfill his divine purpose.“So God came in human form and spent his life in human form to really understand what humans feel and ultimately fulfill their responsibilities. And then it was installed behind this huge spectacle that was woven into the fabric of the script,” Malhotra added.According to the producers, these themes of duty, sacrifice and compassion transcend cultures, making the story relatable even for viewers unfamiliar with the Indian epic.

Director Nitesh Tiwari said “Ramayana” will be equally focused on the emotional journey of the characters and on a grand visual scale.He described the film as a story about sacrifice, revenge, love and resilience, adding that while audiences can expect world-class visuals, emotional storytelling remains at the heart of the project.Tiwari also said that the purpose of the film is not only to entertain but also to leave the audience with meaningful thoughts long after they leave the theater.
What Ramayana trailer reveals
The 4 minutes and 9 seconds long trailer was released globally on the auspicious occasion of Brahma Muhurat on July 30. The trailer begins with YashRavana emerges from the shadows and declares his rule over the three realms.As darkness spreads, Lord Vishnu is reborn as Prince Rama, played by Ranbir Kapoor. The trailer then shows the grandeur of Ayodhya, the wedding of Rama and Sita (Sai Pallavi), and the emotional moments of Rama undergoing 14 years of exile with Lakshmana, played by Ravi Dubey.The trailer also showcases several iconic moments from the epic, including Shurpanaka’s confrontation, Sita’s abduction, and the massive war between Rama and Ravana, complete with massive battlefields, mythical creatures, and elaborate action sequences.It ends with Rama’s powerful declaration: “If Ravana is the ruler of three realms, all three realms will witness his death.”
Hollywood-level visual effects and music
One of the biggest talking points in the trailer is its visual effects, created by Oscar-winning visual effects studio DNEG. The clip shows off Lanka’s vast vistas, majestic palaces and massive battle scenes rendered with Hollywood-style CGI.The music is another highlight, by Oscar-winning composer Hans Zimmer and legendary Indian composer AR Rahman. Their score blends majestic orchestral music with Indian spiritual influences, adding emotional weight to the visuals.

Directed by Nitesh Tiwari and produced by Namit Malhotra, Ramayana stars Ranbir Kapoor as Rama, Sai Pallavi as Sita, Yash as Ravana and Sunny Deol Ravie Dubey plays the role of Hanuman and Lakshmana.Planned as a two-part saga, Ramayana: Part 1 is scheduled to release during Diwali 2026, while Ramayana: Part 2 is expected to release during Diwali 2027.
