New Delhi: The Supreme Court Bar Association (SCBA) on Tuesday passed a resolution condemning the lathi charges against students and members of the legal fraternity, calling reports of use of force against peaceful protesters “deeply disturbing” and “completely unacceptable in a democratic society”.“The resolution, dated July 22, 2026, calls for an immediate, impartial and time-bound investigation into the incident. The association also sought action against those responsible, medical assistance to the injured and measures to prevent similar incidents in the future.Resolution condemns alleged use of forceThe SCBA said in its resolution that it “strongly condemns the cruel charges against innocent students, which resulted in several students being seriously injured.” It added that members of the legal fraternity, including SCBA members, were also injured in the incident.“The excessive use of force against peaceful students and members of the Bar is deeply disturbing and completely unacceptable in a democratic society,” the association said.SCBA seeks investigation and accountabilityThe resolution urges authorities to “investigate this incident immediately, impartially and within a time-bound manner, identify those responsible for the excessive use of force, and take appropriate action in accordance with the law.”The SCBA also called on the authorities to ensure that all injured students and members of the legal profession receive appropriate medical care and assistance.Furthermore, the association urged the authorities to take necessary measures to prevent similar incidents from happening again.The resolution said the SCBA stands with those injured in the incident.“The Association stands with all those injured and reaffirms its commitment to the protection of constitutional rights, human dignity and the rule of law,” the resolution said.
