Marvel Studios surprised fans around the world on Monday with the release of the Avengers: Doomsday trailer. The video quickly took social media by storm and had a record-breaking debut. The first official trailer for the highly-anticipated superhero epic has been viewed 503 million times within 24 hours of release, making it Disney’s largest trailer release ever and the second-largest trailer debut in history.
Second largest trailer release ever
According to Disney, the “Avengers: Doomsday” trailer was viewed an estimated 503 million times worldwide on its first day, second only to “Spider-Man: A New Day,” which had 719 million views when its trailer debuted.The launch also surpasses Disney’s previous record holder, the 2024 Deadpool and Wolverine Super Bowl trailer, which attracted 365 million views, including TV broadcast viewers.
Russo brothers thank fans
Directors Joe and Anthony Russo celebrated the achievement by thanking Marvel fans on social media. Sharing a still from the trailer, the pair wrote: “Thank you so much to the best fans in the world! The trailer hit 500 million views in 24 hours. We can’t wait to share Armageddon with you. See you in theaters on December 18th…”The Russo brothers return to the Marvel Universe after directing “Captain America: The Winter Soldier,” “Captain America: Civil War,” “Avengers: Infinity War” and “Avengers: Endgame.”
Trailer shows off Marvel Universe’s biggest crossover since ‘Endgame’
The trailer released on Monday gave fans their first inside look at Avengers: Endgame, which is being positioned as the MCU’s largest ensemble film since 2019’s Avengers: Endgame. The video shows threats across the multiverse as the New Avengers, X-Men and Fantastic Four come together to take on Doctor Doom. Doctor Doom is played by Robert Downey Jr., his first role in the Marvel Universe since bidding farewell to Tony Stark.The trailer also features several returning Marvel heroes, including Chris Evans as Captain America, Chris Hemsworth as Thor, Paul Rudd as Ant-Man, Patrick Stewart as Professor X, Letitia Wright as Black Panther and Channing Tatum as Gambit.
Ticket sales are booming in advance
The release of the trailer coincides with the launch of pre-sale tickets for select premium screenings. Although bookings were initially limited to premium theaters, the film grossed $16.5 million in first-day advance ticket sales.According to studio insiders, many of the premium screenings scheduled for December 17 and 18 sold out shortly after tickets went on sale online.The first-day pre-sales of “Avengers: Endgame” were twice the first-day pre-orders of “Deadpool and Wolverine.” The film ultimately grossed $211 million domestically and more than $1.3 billion worldwide.
One of the biggest releases of the year
Avengers: Doomsday is the first installment of Avengers: Secret Wars and marks the end of the multiverse saga. The film will be released on December 18, just a few months after Spider-Man: New Day, and is expected to be one of the biggest theatrical events of the year.
