Students of Uttarakhand Ayurved University climbed onto water tanks on Wednesday as they alleged that non-declaration of examination results for the past four years had stalled the university’s academic progress. Protests at the university’s Harawala campus later escalated into confrontations with police, although officials held talks with the rioting students.The protest started when students of Bachelor of Ayurvedic Medicine and Surgery (BAMS) gathered on campus and raised slogans against the delay in declaration of examination results. They asked universities to immediately release pending results and conduct exams that had been postponed due to backlogs.As the unrest intensified, some students climbed onto water tanks on campus, while others sat in silence below, refusing to leave until their demands were addressed.

Four years of delays at the center of protests

Students said they had been waiting for test results for nearly four years, affecting their academic progress and delaying subsequent exams.It was reported that some protesting students scuffled with police during the demonstration. PTI.Police officials later said discussions were ongoing with the students who climbed onto the water tank. according to PTIAbout half a dozen students remained on top of the tank as negotiations continued.As the protests continued, university authorities also stepped in. The principal of Uttarakhand Ayurveda University and other university officials held discussions with the protesting students in an attempt to break the deadlock.University officials are trying to resolve the impasse through dialogue while also addressing student grievances over pending test results and delays in academic progress.

What are the students’ requirements?

At the heart of the protest are two demands:

  • Pending inspection results will be announced immediately.
  • Conduct of follow-up inspections delayed due to backlog.

Negotiations between students, police and university officials continued on Wednesday, but it remains to be seen whether they will set a timetable for releasing results and conducting pending exams.
