In a recent interview, the actor opened up about the time when he didn’t land a movie or any other project, and how the “OMG” actor was one of the few people who helped him when no one was ready.
Vivek Oberoi tells how Akshay Kumar saved him
Oberoi recalled that it was Akshay Kumar who extended a helping hand to him after the Bollywood industry hit a slump and faced boycotts in the early 2000s. Talking to Mirchi Plus, the actor revealed that he had not found a job then and was facing rejection anyway.One day, however, Akshay Kumar called him. The actor revealed that Kumar reached out to him and listened to his plight. He added, “Akshay Kumar, the superstar! One day he called me and asked me, ‘Where are you?’ I told him I was at home and was depressed. Half an hour later, he landed at my house. He said he wanted to sit down and talk to me. Then, he asked me what problem I had.”He went on to say how “Welcome to the Jungle” told him that he would pass on some offers to him to help him out. “He said, ‘Look, I can’t do anything about it, but I can help you develop a positive mindset’. Then he said, there are so many shows going on, I have a lot of hit songs, and he is busy shooting. So, since he can’t do these shows due to his busy schedule, he can shift them to me,” Oberoi shared, adding that he doesn’t believe in actors skipping roles.Oberoi commented: “He didn’t want to do it and asked me to pick them up. Kya baat hai! Who would do such a thing for someone?”

With the help of the actor, he got good roles in shows and other projects and even earned a lot of money at the time. He further mentioned, “With this help I started coming back to the stage and started seeing fans at shows and they were cheering and I got a good positive feeling. I was also making money. My frustration was that I was delivering films and they were successful and getting awards but why am I still not getting a job? Why the boycott?Oberoi also mentioned that Kumar did not say what he could do about the boycott but gave him the opportunity to work and overcome the boycott on his own. “So, he didn’t say I’m going to support you, I’m going to go against the lobby or whatever. He gave me a simple, practical solution,” he shared.
