Akshay Kumar’s multi-starrer comedy “Welcome to the Jungle” has seen its Indian box office revenue plummet again. The film, which is in its fourth week in theaters, suffered a sharp drop in ratings on Friday, coinciding with the release of Christopher Nolan’s long-awaited epic “The Odyssey,” which has become a new choice for Indian moviegoers.
‘Welcome to the Jungle’ Day 22 Box Office Revenue
According to sacnilk’s preliminary estimates, Welcome to the Jungle has earned a net collection of just Rs 20 lakh on day 22 from around 738 shows in theaters across the country. The latest data shows that the film’s total net revenue in India is estimated at Rs 1,320.5 crore, while its total India revenue is estimated at Rs 15,689 crore.According to the report, fourth Friday collections fell sharply by 60% from Thursday’s expected collection of Rs 50 lakh. This drop also comes as the film approaches its theatrical release.
“Welcome to the Jungle” weekly series
The film received a good response after its release and collected about 930 million rupees at the box office in its first week. However, it was unable to sustain this momentum in the coming weeks. According to reports, the film’s box office collection dropped significantly to around Rs 31.90 crore in the second week of its release, while in the third week, the box office collection fell to single digits at just Rs 68 lakh. Now, the film is on the low end of the box office with just Rs 20 lakh in its fourth weekend of release, and it remains to be seen whether it can maintain this momentum in the coming week.
“Welcome to the Jungle” global series
Despite the slowdown in India’s economy, “Welcome to the Jungle” is still expected to cross the Rs 200-crore mark at the global box office. The film has grossed an estimated Rs 333.5 crore in international markets, taking its global box office collection to Rs 19,024 crore. It remains to be seen if the film can add another Rs 10 crore at the box office this week before getting ready to premiere on OTT.
“The Odyssey” and “Welcome to the Jungle”
The slowdown in the film’s box office may be related to the arrival of Christopher Nolan’s “The Odyssey,” which is releasing across India in English, Hindi, Tamil and Telugu. The Hollywood epic had an impressive debut, raking in around Rs 2,076 crore at the box office, with an estimated opening day net collection of Rs 1,740 crore. Driven by strong presence in IMAX and premium formats, the film dominated premium screens and theaters, attracting audiences who might otherwise have opted for a domestic release.Notably, Nolan’s latest film also surpassed Welcome to the Jungle’s own opening box office series, putting it on track to become one of the best-performing Hollywood films in India.
