Many private and corporate schools in Telangana remained closed on July 10, 2026 after a coalition of student organizations launched a joint action across the state. However, the Telangana School Education Department is yet to announce a state-wide holiday for educational institutions.Closure patterns vary among institutions. While several private school managements have announced holidays in advance, public schools have not yet received any official closure order. Students and parents are advised to confirm course status directly with their respective schools before traveling.Private schools announce holidaysA large number of private and corporate schools informed parents via text messages that classes will still be closed on July 10. This decision was made by individual administrators to avoid disrupting student transportation and campus operations during the band period.Public schools and public educational institutions continue to hold classes without official notice of holidays. However, normal activities on some campuses may be affected due to protests organized in different parts of the state. Why is it called Bandh? The educational institution bandh was launched by a joint platform of student organizations including Students Federation of India (SFI), All India Students Federation (AISF), Progressive Democratic Students Union (PDSU), Democratic Youth Federation of India (DYFI) and All India Democratic Students Organization (AIDSO).These organizations are seeking change in multiple areas of the education sector. Among their demands is the withdrawal of a proposal they say would consolidate nearly 27,000 public schools into about 4,000 cluster campuses. They also called for a fee regulation law to address fee-paying practices in private education institutions. Other demands include appointment of a full-time education minister and filling of vacant posts of teachers, mandal education officers (MEOs) and district education officers (DEOs).School weekend timetableFor private schools that have declared a holiday on July 10, the closure period has been extended to a three-day weekend, that is, the second Saturday of July 11 and Sunday, July 12.The Telangana government had earlier directed that July 11 would be treated as a working day in government schools to compensate for the previous loss of academic time. Nonetheless, some private institutions are continuing with their own holiday arrangements based on management decisions.
