Businessman, former senior advisor to the President of the United States Elon Musk has been outspoken about his thoughts on Christopher Nolan’s latest film, The Odyssey. From criticizing the casting to criticizing the director’s “integrity,” Musk kept sharing his true thoughts on the film with the public. Here’s a compilation of most of the comments Nolan has made over the past few months since he announced his film.
Elon Musk on Lupita Nyong’o
Taking to X (formerly Twitter), Musk expressed his dissatisfaction with Nolan’s casting choices, specifically Lupita Nyong’o and Elliot Page. Nyong’o plays Helen of Troy, the most beautiful woman in Greek mythology and the cause of the Trojan War, and her half-sister Clytemnestra. Speaking about her casting, conservative commentator Matt Walsh criticized Nolan for choosing Lupita for the role, writing in a post: “No one on the planet truly thinks Lupita Nyong’o is ‘the most beautiful woman in the world.’But Christopher Nolan knew that if he gave the role of the most beautiful woman to a white woman, he would be called a racist. Nolan is technically gifted, but a coward. In response, Musk commented under the post: “Correct.”

Earlier this year, the businessman also retweeted several posts calling on the director to cast Elliot Page in the film. Many of the comments were transphobic in nature and directly commented on Page’s gender. He also responded to one such post from his own account, writing: “Chris Nolan has lost his integrity.” Earlier rumors suggested that Elliot Page would play Achilles, one of Odysseus’ fallen comrades he encounters in Hell. However, it was later confirmed that Page’s character was Sinon, one of the warriors in his fleet who was tricked into joining the war by one of Penelope’s suitors. In Homer’s poem he is depicted as Odysseus’ cousin, while in the film he is depicted as a peasant’s son.
Elon Musk talks AI making ‘Odyssey’ historically accurate
Most recently, Musk commented in an online post about how his social media platform’s artificial intelligence system would create a “historically accurate” version of “The Odyssey” that would be different from Nolan’s version. His post read: “Before this year is out, Grok Imagine will be producing a full-length Odyssey movie that is historically accurate and true to Homer’s art.” Among other things, he shared several posts from an X user who shared a three-minute-long clip that they claimed was produced through artificial intelligence. The video shows a conversation between Odysseus and the nymph Calypso.
Elon Musk will fund another version of Mel Gibson’s ‘Odyssey’
A few days ago, a social media user asked Elon Musk to fund film producer and actor Mel Gibson and give him $100 million. The person commented that Musk should fund his project and create another historically accurate version of the Odyssey, complete with ships, armor, and weapons. In the man’s reply, he simply answered with two words and said: “I’m frustrated.”
Elon Musk creates an AI version of ‘The Iliad’
Homer’s epic poem is divided into two poems: The Iliad, which details the war, and The Odyssey, which tells the story of the king’s perilous journey home. A month ago, ahead of the release of “The Odyssey,” he used his own AI video tools to create a reimagined clip of “The Iliad,” despite all the criticism he had leveled at Nolan. He shared the post with the caption: “Trailer for The Iliad (Troy) by Grok Imagine 1.5, just released.“ The social media account Heavy Pulp created the video and responded to Musk’s post, commenting: “It was a pleasure making this video for everyone!” to which Musk replied: “Want to make a full movie?”
