Damon, who stars in Christopher Nolan’s epic “The Odyssey,” compared his character’s defiant mentality to the one he and Affleck developed when they were younger. “I think starting out as an actor, you have to feel a little bit like that. You have to do it because the opportunities are so slim for you,” Damon explained in the interview. “I think Ben and I had each other’s backs when we were younger. When we were teenagers, we would come to New York by train or bus to audition for The Mickey Mouse Club.“He elaborated on how their support system differs from typical family encouragement. “We’re the only ones who trust each other. We have families, but they’re not in the entertainment industry. We’re the only ones who feel like we’ve got our foot in the door and say, ‘Yeah, you’re going to make it,'” Damon said. “I think you need to have a bullshit mentality to go into this life because it’s a bit like circus life, it’s not a normal way to live.“
