Brydon Carse has been added to the England squad for the remaining two ODIs of the three-match series against India after completing his recovery from injury. The England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) confirmed the inclusion of the 30-year-old fast bowler on Tuesday 14 July during the first ODI at Edgbaston. His return bolsters England’s pace attack ahead of the final two games of the series.

Recovered from IPL injury, available for final two ODIs

Carse had been sidelined since suffering wrist and elbow injuries while batting in the nets for Sunrisers Hyderabad before the start of IPL 2026. The injury ruled him out for several months before he began his comeback. To assess his readiness for international cricket, the England selectors monitored his performances in the Vitality Blast, where he made three appearances for Durham. The call-up marks Carse’s first ODI squad selection since England tour New Zealand in November 2025. The right-arm seamer has represented England in 30 ODIs, claiming 34 wickets.Having regained full fitness, Carse is now available for selection for the remaining matches of the series, with the second ODI scheduled in Cardiff on Thursday 16 July, followed by the series finale at Lord’s on Sunday 19 July.

India end England’s winning streak at Edgbaston

India ended England’s remarkable 12-year unbeaten run in Men’s ODIs at Edgbaston with a convincing six-wicket win in the 1st ODI. The hosts made a promising start, reaching 61 for no loss, before India’s bowlers staged a dramatic collapse that left them reeling at 80/5. Joe Root held the innings together with an unbeaten 76, while Liam Dawson added a valuable 68. Their partnership of 111 helped England recover to 258 before they were bowled out.Axar Patel played a pivotal role with the ball, claiming four wickets and breaking the back of England’s batting line-up with figures of 4/62.India’s quest was built around another knock secured by captain Shubman Gill, who scored 80 before retiring injured with cramps. The visitors lost little momentum after slipping to 160/4, but Axar Patel and Washington Sundar combined to extinguish England’s hopes. The pair put together an unbeaten 102-run stand, with Axar finishing on 57* and Sundar remaining unbeaten on 52, as India sealed victory with 28 deliveries to spare.
