Original song voiced by Alka Yagnik and Ila Arun and filmed in Mamta Kulkarniremains one of the most popular numbers from the 1995 film, which also starred Shah Rukh Khan, Salman Khan and Kajol.
Mamta Kulkarni says the original song has been etched in people’s minds
Sharing her thoughts on Mahira Sharma’s singing in an interview with Variety India, Kulkarni said, “She has done a great job. The point is, you are seeing a song that was originally made with ghagra choli and Indian dance moves and is now made in a Western format and Western costumes. So, it stands out. But the earlier songs have been etched in people’s minds, so it immediately comes to your mind.”
Mamta Kulkarni recalls the rigorous rehearsals of the original show
Talking about the preparation of the original show, Kulkarni recalled the arduous process behind the show in the 1990s. “Chinni Prakash masterji was the choreographer of ‘Mujhko Ranaji’. The rehearsals were scheduled for two to three days. But I took the right steps on the first day. When I reached the sets, the steps changed. I asked him why he changed the steps. I wondered what the purpose of the rehearsal was, but Chinni Prakash masterji was very good and we completed the song on time.“

Looking back at the musical legacy left behind by ‘Karan Arjun’, Kulkarni praised director Rakesh for successfully bringing such an ambitious project to life. “The song ‘Jai Maa Kaali’ was difficult to shoot as there were a lot of dancers in it. I thank Rakeshji for completing such a complex film with so many artistes. ‘Karan Arjun’ became a super hit. Be it ‘Jai Maa Kaali’, ‘Bhangda Paa Le’ or ‘Ek Munda Meri Umr Da’, people loved all the songs.“

Talking about her journey in Bollywood, the actress, who has not been seen on screen in a long time, shared, “I kept getting offers to act. If I get a script that really excites me, I am ready to accept it. Of course, I cannot compose a song like ‘Mujhko Ranaji Maaf Karna’ with those lyrics today. I am mentally aware and awakened now. So, some songs are not for me. I have to focus more on the lyrics than the dance.” At that point, I never thought about the lyrics because I was more focused on perfecting the dance moves. I was still young and immature at that time. “
