“We kept our relationship secret for a long time, about eight or nine months,” Blanco said in an interview with Spanish newspaper El Pais. He then revealed a key conversation they had before their public announcement. “She asked me, ‘Are you sure you want to do this? If you want us to be just friends, I understand.’ And I said, ‘You know what? Screw it. We’re lucky in that we all have friends and family that we knew before all of this happened, and we’re surrounded by a great group of good people that we love,” he recalled.
The significance of Selena Gomez’s problem
Blanco explained that Gomez’s questions about going public were partly due to considerations related to her established celebrity status. Gomez rose to fame as a teenager on the Disney Channel series and has built an extensive career in television, film and music. She was recently nominated for a Grammy for Best Dance-Pop Recording for her song “Bluest Flame” with Blanco. In addition to her music career, Gomez became the most Emmy-nominated Latina in history, receiving multiple nominations for her work on television and for her appearances in multiple projects.

Eventually, the two decided to make their relationship official – eventually getting married on September 27, 2025, nearly two years after they went public with their romance.

Blanco, who has mostly worked behind the scenes for years, spoke about his entanglements with social media and his privacy when it comes to the years of public attention he’s received outside of his personal life. “I don’t like exposing my life,” he told El Pais. “Celebrities are always scrutinized: if you say one thing, it’s wrong, if you say another, it’s wrong.”The 12-time Grammy Award nominee admits that staying private is difficult in today’s entertainment world. “I would like to have more privacy,” he said, while acknowledging that he is part of a “transitional generation where social media didn’t exist when I was a kid.” He describes his current approach to social media as selective and strategic. “I choose to occasionally post a picture of my wife or some delicious meal I’ve tried,” he explains, while still focusing on the promotional content of his music.
Upcoming projects beyond the album
The album is scheduled to be released on August 14, marking the beginning of an active period of Blanco’s career expansion. About a month after the album’s release, his biography and self-help book “F–k Failure” will be released on September 15.
