Looking back on his childhood, the actor recalled how watching Manichitrathazhu in theaters left a lasting impact on him.Talking about the experience in an interview with Club FM, Tovino said, “I watched a lot of movies in cinemas as a child, but Manichitrathazhu is a movie that has stayed with me ever since. I was scared to walk in the dark alone for a long time after watching it.”
Watching movies has always been a family tradition
Tovino also said that his love for movies stems from his upbringing. Going to the movies has always been an important part of family life, and visits to the theater have become a tradition for family celebrations.He explained that even before he and his siblings were born, his parents would often watch movies together. As families grow, organizing outings becomes more difficult. But their passion for movies never faded.Sharing these memories, Tovino said, “My family has always loved going to the movies. Whenever there was a wedding in the family, it was a tradition for everyone to go to the movies together. Even before my siblings and I were born, my parents never missed an opportunity to go to the movies.”
Weekend movie nights shaped his passion
As frequent theater trips became less practical, Tovino’s father found another way to keep the family’s film tradition alive. He bought a video recorder. He made sure to spend his weekends at home watching movies.The actor recalled spending hours rewatching rented tapes with his brother. These experiences shaped his passion for film.Recalling those days, he said: “As I grew older, it became more and more difficult for the whole family to go to the theater together. So my father bought a VCR, and he would rent the video tapes every Friday, and we would watch movies on the weekends.” My brother and I would watch these movies over and over again. I guess that’s where my passion for film began. “On the work front, Tovino Thomas was recently seen in Balaam: The Boy. Directed by Chidambaram and written by Jithu Madhavan, this Malayalam psychological thriller also stars Adhisheshan KR, Farzana Palathingal, Muhammad Zinaan, Jean Paul Lal, Girish AD and Tovino in important roles.According to Sacnilk estimates, Balan: The Boy’s current global collection revenue is Rs 24.26 crore.
