After entertaining the audience with comedy classics together, Saif Ali Khan and Akshay Kumar will reunite on screen priyadarshanUpcoming thriller The Bay. The film is set to be released on September 11 and promises to show the pair in a new light. Talking about working with Akshay again, Saif described the superstar as a family and admitted that their latest collaboration explores darker spaces than their previous collaborations.
Saif is happy to see Akshay Kumar in negative role
Saif and Akshay have shared great chemistry over the years in films like “Yeh Dillagi”, “Main Khiladi Tu Anari” and “Tu Chor Main Sipahi”. “The Bay,” however, takes its actors away from comedy and places them in intense dramatic situations.Talking about Akshay’s role in an interview with Variety India, Saif said, “We are very lucky that he is playing this role in the film. It makes the role even more exciting because it is a dangerous, negative role and I haven’t seen him do that very often. I am very happy to see it.”Looking back on a friendship that spans over three decades, Saif spoke passionately about his bond with Akshay. According to the actor, their long-term collaboration has created a mutual respect and effortless chemistry that comes naturally to the screen.Expressing his admiration, Saif said, “I love Akshay. He is like an older brother to me. We have met before. We go all the way back. There is a special respect for someone like him who has served for so long. We have just been through so much together. We have always had great chemistry.”
Priyadarshan often had to calm down the two on the sets.
Even though Haiwaan is a serious thriller, Saif admits that he and Akshay can’t help but joke around every time the cameras stop rolling. Their naughty antics often drew humorous scoldings from director Priyadarshan.Recalling those moments, Saif said, “Priyan sir was a little bit dismissive of us. He said, ‘You guys are behaving like naughty children.'” Akshay said, “He let me play with that. I told him, ‘You brought it out.’ We have been talking trash ever since we met on the sets.” We mature more when we are alone. But together…”
‘Bayside’ leaves comedy behind
Fans have long associated the pair with their comedic timing, but Saif made it clear that “Haiwaan” deliberately avoided relying on that familiar dynamic. Instead, the film explores a darker relationship between the two characters. Explaining the switch, he said, “The film doesn’t rely on that kind of comedy chemistry, which is also good because I think it has aged well.” At the same time, Saif has not ruled out another comedy with Akshay in the future. He added: “If it’s written well, who’s to say we wouldn’t do it again?”Summarizing the tone of the film, the actor concluded: “What’s interesting is that it’s a darker, more dramatic equation. It’s not all gossip and banter. It’s a completely different space.”With Haiwaan, Priyadarshan once again brings the two much-loved co-stars together, but this time in a gripping thriller that promises to showcase a completely different side of their on-screen partnership.
