The wait for the return of Queen Rhaenyra and the Targaryens is almost over. House of the Dragon Season 3 will air on Sunday, June 21, following a major prequel series that has captivated audiences since its release in 2022.According to USA Today , the new season arrives after the ending of season 2 was described as anticlimactic. Despite mixed reviews for last season’s finale, anticipation for the show remains high, with many anticipating it to be a key chapter in the ongoing civil war that forms the backbone of the series.
When and where to watch the new season
Season 3 will premiere on Sunday, June 21 at 9pm ET. Subsequent episodes will follow the same weekly schedule, releasing at the same time every Sunday until the August 9 finale. The season consists of eight episodes in total.

Charting expectations for next season

“House of the Dragon” cast returns for season 3
The cast for next season will include familiar and new faces. Emma Darcy continues to play the central role of Queen Rhaenyra Targaryen, while Matt Smith reprises his role as Daemon Targaryen. Olivia Cooke returns as Alison Hightower, with a supporting cast including Rhys Ifans as Otto Hightower, Fabian Frankel as Ser Criston Cole, Steve Toussaint as Corlys Velaryon, Harry Collett as Jacaerys Velaryon, Bethany Antonia as Bela Targaryen, Tom Green-Carney as Aegon Targaryen, and Ewan Mitchell as Aemond Targaryen.

Other returning cast members include Fia Saban as Helena Targaryen, Sonoya Mizuno as Mythalia, Matthew Needham as Larys Strong, Phoebe Campbell as Reyna Targaryen, and Jefferson Hall as Tyran and Jason Lannister. New cast members added this season include Sons of Anarchy’s Tommy Flanagan and Fantastic Beasts’ Dan Fogler. The ensemble also includes Kieran Bew as Hugh Hammer, Clinton Liberty as Addam of Hull, Abubakar Salim as Alyn of Hull, Gayle Rankin as Alys Rivers, Freddie Fox Fox as Ser Gwayne Hightower.
Future seasons have been given the green light
The show has been confirmed for a fourth season and will be renewed in November 2025. Season 4 is scheduled to premiere in 2028, ensuring viewers will have the opportunity to learn about the Targaryen conflict through multiple additional chapters beyond the current season.The new season of “House of the Dragon” will air on HBO MAX this weekend.
