Now, Eisenberg, known for his roles in The Social Network, Now You See Me, Zombieland, and Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, is opening up about why he decided to pass on the sequel.

Jesse Eisenberg’s performance as Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg in the 2010 film “The Social Network” won him widespread acclaim and helped him become one of Hollywood’s leading men. The original movie is written by the screenwriter Aaron Sorkin Directed by David Fincher, it was a critical and commercial success. While Sorkin will return to direct the sequel, Eisenberg has chosen not to reprise his iconic role.Eisenberg reflected on his conversation with Sorkin in an interview with Variety at the Minions and Monsters premiere, saying, “It was an honor to speak to Aaron in any capacity because he’s so articulate, charming and smart. As he said, we discussed making the film for a few days. The way Aaron talks, he talks brilliantly – as he writes – in a way that if you’re not going to do something with him, it feels like you’re letting America down.“Explaining why he turned down the project, the actor added, “I just told him that my life was going in a different direction, and, you know, his words summed it up really well: I didn’t want to be associated with that character. But all the reasons I didn’t want to do the movie had nothing to do with how great the movie was and was going to be and I’m sure it was.”

The sequel, titled Social Reckoning, has reportedly been in development since 2024 when Aaron Sorkin first announced the project. Strong development momentum last year Jeremy Strong He will take over the role from Mark Zuckerberg after Eisenberg decided to leave the series.
