A story that started with a reckless mistake

The film tells the story of Dhanush, played by Sreenath Bhasi, and his friend Khaja, played by Praveen TJ. The pair got into serious trouble after a drunken argument in their dormitory. Their misadventure takes them to a cemetery where they remove crosses from five graves, not knowing the consequences.Their careless actions awaken five spirits, and when ghosts begin to chase them, the two young men struggle to escape the nightmare while dealing with fear, humor, and a series of unexpected circumstances.Director Subhash Lalitha Subrahmanian is trying to inject something fresh into the horror-comedy genre with Kalakam.

ETimes praised the film’s visual style

ETimes exclusively commented: “One of the most interesting aspects of Karakkam is the way it presents ghosts. These ghosts are not the usual white-clad ghosts of Malayalam films, silently appearing in dark corners or moving in predictable ways across the frame. Here, the ghosts belong to an earlier period and they are imagined through a more colorful acting style. As they are associated with the bar dancers, rock star energy, music and performances of the past, their clothing and body language reflect this. Disco-style costumes, dancing and exaggerated stage presence bring a fresh visual identity to the supernatural portion. This makes the film feel different from the standard horror-comedy template, even if the writing surrounding it isn’t equally creative. “The cast includes Sreenath Bhasi as Dhanush and Femina George as Pinki. Praveen TJ, Abhiram Radhakrishnan, Shaun Romy, Manikandan R. Achari and Sidharth Bharathan also play important roles.
