Prince Harry and Meghan Markle ‘yet to respond’ to King Charles III’s offer to stay ahead of UK visit |
Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have reportedly “yet to respond” to King Charles III’s offer of accommodation for their upcoming visit to the UK. According to reports, the couple are expected to return to the UK in July for the first time in four years, taking their children Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet with them to attend the 2027 Invincible Games countdown “one year” ceremony in Birmingham.According to GB News, the return journey has long been complicated by serious logistical and security issues. Prince Harry lost his automatic right to 24-hour armed police protection in 2020 after he and Meghan stepped back from official royal duties. He subsequently challenged the decision, arguing that the Home Office had acted unlawfully, but ultimately failed.
Security issues that nearly blocked access
Security concerns became so important that Harry expressed serious reservations about the possibility of returning to the UK with his family. The Duke of Sussex bluntly told the BBC in an interview after losing the court case: “I can’t see a world in which I would now bring my wife and children back to the UK.”
Reportedly provided multiple royal residences
King Charles III has reportedly offered royal accommodation to Harry and Meghan. A number of prominent royal properties were considered potential locations for their visit. Buckingham Palace, St James’s Palace, Windsor Castle and Frogmore Cottage, the couple’s former homes before moving to California in 2020, were reportedly discussed. However, according to the Daily Mail, Harry and Meghan have yet to formally respond to the proposal.
Althorp House becomes possible destination
According to reports, the couple may stay at Althorp House, the ancestral estate of the Spencer family and the childhood home of Diana, Princess of Wales. The property holds deep personal significance for Harry as it is the resting place of his late mother. Geographically, the estate is about an hour’s drive from Birmingham, making it a logical choice given Harry’s main reason for visiting the UK.
A decision is expected soon
While final decisions on accommodation and security arrangements are still to be made, sources said these issues are expected to be clarified in the coming weeks. The couple’s commitment to participating in the countdown to the Invincible Games suggests their visit will go ahead pending the resolution of these logistical issues.
King Charles III looks forward to reunion
Despite the complications of the visit, King Charles III is reportedly still looking forward to being reunited with his young son and grandchildren. The king’s apparent openness to facilitating the visit contrasts with the stance taken by other members of the royal family.
