Ex-royal aide expresses hope for Harry and William reconciliation: Cautious view
A man who has worked closely with Prince Harry and Prince William for nearly a decade has expressed cautious optimism that the estranged brothers may one day reconcile. Jamie Lowther-Pinkerton, 66, a former royal equerry and SAS soldier, served as the private secretary to both princes for eight years before leaving in 2013.While promoting his upcoming novel Beyond the Edge of Light, Lowther-Pinkerton offers a rare inside look at the relationship between King Charles’ two sons, describing them as men of considerable courage and character. His comments come as Prince Harry prepares for a major visit to the UK in July, marking the one-year countdown to the Invincible Games in Birmingham.
Jamie Lowther-Pinkerton’s long history with Princes William and Harry
Lowther-Pinkerton has been linked to the royal family for decades. From 1984 to 1986, he served as equerry to the Queen Mother and later as personal secretary to the young prince and his future sister-in-law. His role allowed him to have a significant influence on the development and direction of Harry and William’s lives during their formative years. The former army officer is now godfather to Prince George, second in line to the throne, a responsibility he has taken on with great dedication. Speaking about his current role, Lowther-Pinkerton admitted that while he may not always be on hand, he makes the most of his opportunities to engage with the young royal. “It sounds terrible, but I’m a better godfather when it’s time to have a little fun,” he told The Times in an interview.
Prince Harry and Prince William’s Outstanding Military Achievements
Both Harry and William have earned considerable respect for their military service, with Harry serving multiple military deployments to Afghanistan. At the same time, William displayed exceptional skill and courage as a helicopter pilot, performing rescue operations in challenging conditions in British waters and difficult terrain.“Harry served two tours of duty in Afghanistan, and for William, if you’re flying a fixed-azimuth Sea King through Category 8, Category 9 forces, rescuing a sick crew member in the Irish Sea or the middle of the North Atlantic, or flying up the cliffs of Snowdonia in gusty winds, you can look anyone in the eye,” Lowther-Pinkerton said, highlighting the dangers and technical proficiency required for such work.
Jamie Lowther-Pinkerton remains optimistic about Prince Harry and Prince William’s future
Despite widespread reports that the two brothers have not spoken since Queen Elizabeth II’s funeral in 2022, Lowther-Pinkerton has maintained a hopeful stance on the future of their relationship. When asked directly about their apparent differences, his response was typically cautious but optimistic.“I’m an eternal optimist,” he said. “I think I’d better avoid Harry’s question. What I’m saying is that I was, and still am, very fond of him.” His careful choice of words means he is sensitive to issues that may arise between the two brothers, but at the same time, he hopes they can reconcile in the future.
